About me
My folks and I moved to North Carolina in 1970 when I was eleven. I made some friends in Carrboro who turned me on to the relatively new medium of FM. It was on FM that I first heard Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and so much more. I already knew I wanted to play guitar but the deal was sealed because my neighbor, who was my age, had a Fender Mustang and a Twin Reverb amp. He was eleven or twelve and already playing in a band. He went on to be a pro musician and is still making a living with his guitar.
Now I noodled around for ten years before I got serious and started playing in a band. I have played for nobody in a nowhere town out in wild America and I have played for seventeen thousand screaming, teenage girls in a coliseum.
The pay has been nonexistant and it has been a kings' ransom.
Wise people who went before me have said: It's the journey. It's riding all over the States in an old Dodge van with six smelly guys, playing music in bars and colleges, eating a lot of peanut butter and meeting the coolest folks on earth.
I don't know how many bands I've been in or how many gigs I've played, but I know I'll continue to do so.
Unless someone let's me go up in space on the Space Shuttle.
